Lydia Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - West Military Dr. on Mar. 14, 2026.
Lydia Billie Johnston, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 90. Born on November 3, 1935, in Brownsville, Texas, to Joseph and Lydia Boccino. Lydia's (known by many as Billie), life was a testament to the power of kindness and dedication.

Lydia's journey through life was marked by her unwavering courage and the love she poured into her family. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents, her devoted husband, John, her beloved son, David, her two sisters and their spouses, and three brothers and their spouses giving her many nieces and nephews and their families.

Her legacy of love continues through her three daughters, Billie Jo Lacey (George, deceased), Sheron Pieper (Kevin), and Diana Atkins (Rusty); her adored 10 grandchildren, Amber, Eric, Amy, Aarron, Gabriel, Mark, Donald, Dustin, Allen, and Amanda; her 16 great-grandchildren; and her 13 great-great-grandchildren and their families, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.

Lydia's professional life was characterized by her service to others, as she dedicated many years to serving food to students at John Jay High School who knew her as the "Soda Lady".

Beyond her work at the school, Lydia's heart was truly at home, surrounded by her family. She was our matriarch of the family, always ready with a smile or a word of encouragement, that "everything's going to be alright". Her sense of humor was a source of laughter and light. Lydia's love for her family was her guiding force, and the memories created during countless family gatherings will be cherished forever. She enjoyed family BBQs; playing cards; bowling with Daddy; reading romance novels; watching soap operas and westerns; crocheting and sewing.

Lydia Johnston lived her life with love, courage, and selflessness. Her impact on her family, friends, and community will be felt for generations to come. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we celebrate the remarkable life she lived and the countless lives she touched with her generous spirit. Lydia's story does not end with her passing but continues in the hearts of those who loved her and were inspired by her life.
