SOUTHBURY – Lydia (Kordick) (Guit) Kutzli, age 103, of Southbury, beloved wife of the late Peter Guit and Lawrence Kutzli, entered peaceful rest on Saturday, January 8, 2023 in Griffin Hospital after a very brief illness. Born on the family farm in Seymour on October 10, 1919, Lydia was a daughter of the late Michael and Josephine (Michaelowski) Kordick.
Lydia was born and raised in Seymour, attending the one-room schoolhouse on Bungay Road and later attending Seymour High School. She was employed by UniRoyal Footware in Naugatuck for 25 years before retiring and moving to Florida. She returned to Connecticut in 2015 to live with her daughter and be closer to her family. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cooking and baking, as well as playing cards. Lydia also was an accomplished knitter and, until her death, was working on her third shipment of donated hats, baby blankets and sweaters to be sent to Ukraine. She didn't look her age and astonished everyone by her clear mind and thoughtful ways.
Mrs. Kutzli is survived by her loving daughter, Donna Matula of Southbury, with whom she made her home; two cherished grandchildren, Robyn Matula of Smyrna, Georgia; Peter Matula (Jennifer) of Woodbury; her adored great-granddaughter, Jordan Matula; step-son, Carl Kutzli (Theresa) and step-granddaughter, Cally Thompson, all of Michigan; son-in-law, Fred Fena (Cindy) of California, and Ronald Matula of Southbury; as well as a sister and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Dolores Hanley of California, as well as brothers, Alexander Kordick and Harry Kordick, and sisters, Olga Hardy, Nina Mongillo, Valentina Paulus and Eugenia Ford.
All services will be held at the convenience of the family and the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St, Seymour CT 06488, has been entrusted with her arrangements. Memorial donations in Lydia's name may be made to Connecticut Food Share, 2 Research Parkway, Wallingford, CT 06492. For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.hullfh.com
