Lydia DeBoni Main, 96, of
Masontown, WV, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, listening to her favorite polka music.
She was born in Bretz, WV on September 20, 1929, a daughter of the late Luigi and Marcellina Vanin DeBoni.
Lydia devoted her life to service, leadership, community and most importantly to her family. She was the pharmacist and owner of Main Pharmacy in
Masontown, WV for over 60 years. She also served as Mayor of her beloved town for 39 years. Among her many achievements, a few top honors include: The Lydia Main Breaking Boundaries Award, created in her honor by the West Virginia Municipal League honoring outstanding women in public service. She received the National Bowl of Hygeia Award, honoring pharmacists who excel in community development. And most recently, in 2024, The Masontown Town Hall was renamed the Lydia D. Main Municipal Building, leaving a legacy on the town she devoted her life to.
Her civic involvement extended to the West Virginia Municipal League, the Valley District Lions Club, the Valley District High School Alumni Association, the Preston Co. Country Club, and the "Sewing Club". Lydia was an active member of both the West Virginia and National Boards of Pharmacy and a life member of St. Zita Catholic Church and the St. Zita Altar Society.
Passionate about the betterment of Preston County and the town she loved, Lydia gave tirelessly to her community. Beyond her many commitments, she was an avid traveler, exploring both the United States and the world. Aside from all her accomplishments, Lydia spent many hours spoiling her grandchildren, golfing, bowling, gardening, playing rummy, and betting on her favorite sports teams.
Lydia is survived by one daughter, Waynette Main Price, of
Vienna, WV; eight grandchildren, Chad Powroznik, Richard Powroznik, Ann Marie Powroznik, Ashley Powroznik, Jason Buttrey and wife, Karla, Kayla Nelson and husband, Matthew, Travis Buttrey, Whitney Brook-Hagedorn and husband, Justin; twelve great grandchildren, Makayla Bell, Connar Bell, Lane Powroznik, Daxton Powroznik, Madilyn Buttrey, Olivia Buttrey, Eli Nelson, Caroline Nelson, Jackson Fulton, Reese Buttrey, Braden Brooks-Hagedorn, Brody Brooks-Hagedorn; her sister, Tecla DeBoni; and many nieces and nephews who she loved and adored.
In addition to her parents, Lydia is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne L. Main; two daughters, Shawnea Lane Main Powroznik and Machell Ann Brooks; and her brother, Luigi DeBoni.
Friends and family may call at Field Funeral Home in
Masontown, WV, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. Scripture and Prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at St. Zitas Catholic Church in Masontown with Father Dominic Athishu officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Masontown Cemetery.
Following the funeral, the family welcomes you to gather at the Masontown Fire Hall for a luncheon in honor of Lydia - one last toast to a life beautifully lived.
