Lydia Watson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldfinch Funeral Home - Beach Chapel - Murrells Inlet on Mar. 13, 2026.
Lydia Ann Watson passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2026. She entered this life as a fireball and left the same way. Seriously, she was a fireball. You can ask her friends and family. But she was a magnificent fireball that lit the world around her.

Lydia was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on March 20, 1958. She was the daughter of Mildred Ann Blackwell and Robert Alston Blackwell. Lydia was a graduate of Cardinal Newman High School (Class of 76').

Perhaps most importantly, we can smile knowing she's back together with her one true love, Chuck. They met in high school (but you probably already knew that because many of you went there, too). They were together until he passed, and now they're together again. She gave him about two and a half years by himself and said that was enough. Don't be sad, though. They're having fun at their eternal Key West in the sky.

Lydia was an ocean soul. The beach was her true home, and it's where she said goodbye. She loved to garden, especially if daisies were mixed in, but she could get some tomatoes to grow in impossible soil. Lydia was an excellent artist and spent hours upon hours drawing and making jewelry. She adored her son and was his biggest champion.

Lydia is remembered by her friends and family, by all of you, as a spark. She was a light in the room with a kindness that was sometimes hard to understand. Lydia used to carry toys with her to the cemetery to leave on the unmarked graves of children. She wanted to bring them a little joy and comfort, just in case nobody else did. That says nearly all you need to know about her.

Lydia is survived by her son, Allen, her siblings, Kimberly Horonzy and Butch Blackwell, and her niece, Devin Horonzy. In addition to her parents, Lydia was predeceased by her sister, Robin Blackwell, and her brother-in-law, Roger Horonzy, as well as many, many pets.

In lieu of any flowers, Lydia would have loved for you to send a small donation to the ASPCA.
