Austin Paul Formato, Jr., better known as "Paul," passed away peacefully March 1, 2026, at Lakes at Litchfield, Pawleys Island, SC. Born in Tuckahoe, NY, to Austin Paul Formato and Virginia Bell Formato, September 9, 1938, he spent his childhood in Tuckahoe, then attended Ithaca College, where he made lifelong friends who continued to meet yearly at various golfing locations for long weekends.

Upon graduation from Ithaca, he worked as a surveyor in Manhattan before serving in the United States Army and Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Major. Following his military service Paul was employed by the 3M Corporation, where he became Director of South East Asia Operation and spent eight years in Singapore, traveling all of Southeast Asia.

After retirement from 3M, Paul moved to Pawleys Island where he enjoyed playing golf and worked as a starter at the Litchfield Country Club for twenty years. He also became a Master Gardener and started a landscaping and lawn care business, where he worked side-by-side with his employees until his health started to fail.

Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Formato, children Jill Suzanne Andruss (Jim) and Austin Paul Formato III (Alicia); grandchildren Abigail and William Andruss and Anna Formato; sister Patricia Borden. Two brothers died before him.

No services are planned; however, memorials may be made to Tidelands Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, SC 29440.
