Lyle Engquist Obituary

Lyle A. Engquist, age 82, of Cambridge died November 26, 2024 at home.

Lyle Allen Engquist was born July 10, 1942, on the family farm in Bradford Township, Isanti County, Minnesota to Alex and Ida (Miller) Engquist. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1960. On August 8, 1964, Lyle married Jacquelyn "Jackie" Schaff. In 1968, they purchased a farm one mile from Lyle's parents homestead, and they have lived there ever since. Lyle loved dairy and crop farming. While farming, Lyle also worked for Wayne Norberg and Odmark Electric before becoming a Master Electrician and starting his own business, Engquist Electric. Lyle hired and mentored many young people between his farm and electrical business. He enjoyed teaching them and they were like family. Lyle enjoyed engaging conversations. He always had a story and often a clever comeback. He also enjoyed listening to country music and sports, usually while driving his tractor. Lyle kept a close eye on all the activities around the farm. He and Jackie frequently would go out for an afternoon ride to check the fields on their golf cart. He loved what he did and would not have wanted to do anything else.

Lyle will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Jackie; son, Jeff (Danna) Engquist; daughter, Julie (Tom) Foss; sisters, Elaine Engquist Hierlinger and LaVonne (Doug) Springer; grandchildren, Taylor and Brady Engquist and Abby and Allison Foss; and by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to thank Allina Home Care and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care.

Memorial service was held Saturday, November 30th at Strike Life Tributes in Cambridge. Online condolences can be made at StrikeLifeTributes.com. Memorials suggested to Cambridge Senior Activities Center.

Dean Provo

November 30, 2024

My name is Dean Provo and I have known Lyle for many years thru my work at Border States Electric. Over the years we spent a lot of tome together looking at different jobs together.I always enjoyed my time Lyle. He was always humorous and witty in conversation and was full of common sense. A special memory of Lyle is a story he shared with me 30 years ago. I have repeated this story many times over the years as it always makes me smile and I always think of Lyle when I tell it. The story goes like this. Lyle and I were looking at a job together one day when the conversation changed to understanding women. Lyle says to me " Dean when your a young man and your thinking about marriage and wondering if you have found the right gal just look at her mother and if your ok with her as your wife in 30 years you are truly blessed and definitely have found the right gal." I look forward to the day when I can share stories with Lyle again.
