Lyle P. Williams, 84, of St. Lawrence, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church, Miller. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Lyle was born on February 19, 1941, to Percy and Lily (Marshall) Williams, the oldest of four children in Hand County, South Dakota. He received his education in Miller, graduating in 1959. Lyle enlisted in the United States Army on November 29, 1963, serving an overseas tour in Germany before being honorably discharged on November 28, 1969. Following his service, he returned to Miller, where he married Pamela Weaver on February 12, 1977, together they raised their only daughter, Julie.

Lyle worked at Wilber's Feed and Seed and then found his true passion working as a road grader operator for the Hand County Highway Department for 46 years.

Lyle found his greatest joy in the simple things, especially time spent with his family and, most of all, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love for them was honored by his first great-granddaughter, who was named after him. Life around Lyle was often quiet, as he was surrounded by many strong women, yet no matter how much they kept him on his toes, he met it all with patience, good humor, and a loving smile. Family visits often included laughter, conversation, and, if Lyle had his way, a bowl of ice cream. Later in life, when his wife tried to limit that indulgence, Lyle would always shrug his shoulders and sigh.

He had a smile that brought warmth and happiness to everyone he met. Lyle portrayed a quiet demeanor, but when he was with his family, he was quite the opposite with the exception of his mumbling. Whether someone was stopping by for a quick visit or staying awhile, Lyle never missed the chance to ask one of his favorite questions: What were the gas prices on your way here? When the day slowed down, he enjoyed settling in to watch Storage Wars or American Pickers. His lifelong love of operating heavy equipment never faded and followed him home, where he could often be found proudly mowing his yard; a task his family joked was his true retirement plan.

Lyle was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served on the session and as head usher. He was a lifetime member of the Hand County Post #38 American Legion and VFW #3214.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Pamela; daughter, Julie; grandchildren: Jennifer Kenaston (Logan Dahl), and Jannelle Kenaston (Matt Ludwig); great grandchildren, Lyla Dahl and Paeson Ludwig; sister, Nancy Williams; nephews: Corey Williams, Eric Williams, and Dustin Williams; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Jeff Moschell, and Penny and Kenny Norman; and great nephew, Joshua Williams.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Lily; brother, Ronald; sister, Carol; and sister-in-law, Marilyn.
