Obituary
Lyn Douglas Steichen
October 18, 1967- February 6, 2024
Lyn Douglas Steichen, 56, passed away on February 6, 2024 after a courageous battle with adenoid carcinoma. Lyn was diagnosed in December 2023 and given only 2 weeks to live. His story wasn't finished though, he fought for two months, and was able to enjoy the holiday season and New Year with his loving wife.
Born on October 18, 1967, in Wessington Springs, South Dakota, Lyn was the beloved son of Edward Joseph and Delores Jane (Murphy) Steichen.
Growing up as the youngest of eight siblings on the family farm, Lyn learned the value of hard work from an early age. He was known for his strong work ethic, ensuring that all farm tasks were completed before indulging in his youthful adventures. Lyn completed his high school education at Wessington Springs High and further pursued his academic career at Lake Area Technical College, where he studied engineering.
In 2003, Lyn made a significant move to Alaska, where he began his career at Copper Valley Telephone. It was during his travels to Dallas, Texas, that he met the love of his life, Karen Emiliano. United in matrimony on September 6, 2011, Lyn and Karen embarked on countless adventures, exploring the beauty of America in their 5th wheel, and even journeying to Europe for a memorable vacation. However, Lyn's most cherished vacations, were weekend getaways spent with Karen.
In August of 2018, Lyn relocated to Worland, Wyoming, where he joined Range as an engineer. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Lyn found solace in the great outdoors, indulging in his passion for pheasant hunting. Additionally, he dedicated much of his free time to remodeling his home, showcasing his talents as a skilled handyman.
Lyn was characterized by his quiet demeanor, yet his diligence and dedication spoke volumes about his character. He was a man of few words but boundless actions, leaving an permanent mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of hard work, resilience, and devotion to family will forever be cherished.
Lyn was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; siblings, Patricia (Jim) Cracco of Boulder, Colorado, Mark (Carol) Steichen of Alpena South Dakota, Gail (Paul) Swanston of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Alan (Laura) Steichen of Tucson, Arizona, Curt (Janet) Steichen of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Wendy (Craig) Brown of Watertown, South Dakota and Laurie (Wally Ingram) Steichen of Los Angeles, California; step-son, Anthony "Tony" Patrick Mims of Dallas, Texas; step-daughter, Patricia "Renee" Mims of Austin, Texas; step-grandchildren, Albany Grace Mims and Anthony Patrick "AJ" Mims.
