Lynda Mitchell Obituary

Lynda Jane Mitchell
The perfect soul of Lynda Jane Mitchell departed this earth on Thursday, August 7th at her home surrounded by loved ones, including her immediate family as well as her wonderful caregiver, Christine Pacifico of Thomaston. She was 79 years old.
Born in Clendenon, West Virginia in 1946 to Anne and William Harris, she was raised in Thomaston, CT, where she spent the duration of her youth and adult life.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law (Jamie and Jonathan Weisman), her three grandchildren (Abigail, Chloe and Benjamin Weisman), cousins Timothy, David and Barbara Polowy, and her sister (Tina Galfo) of Ridgefield, New Jersey. Additionally, she is survived by a much larger array of friends of family that extend beyond what this page can hold.
She graduated from Thomaston High School, earned a bachelor's degree from Central Connecticut State University, followed by a master's degree from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. Her professional life extended from classroom teacher all the way to Superintendent of schools over the course of her career. Her skills in life extended far beyond her workplace, however, as her kindness and compassion was contagious.
Her main interests in life were in theater and dance and her grandchildren, and she was happiest surrounded by loved ones and giving love in return. She traveled extensively throughout her life and had many wishes fulfilled in her later years, including caring for her grandchildren, living a short while in a big city, and spending time at various beaches in the northeast with her family.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., with a funeral home service at 12:00 p.m.
To leave notes of comfort for Lynda's family, please visit her tribute wall at www.lyonsfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Landmark Community Theater at the Thomaston Opera House 158 Main St., Thomaston, CT 06787, in her memory, honoring her appreciation of the arts and anything local.
