Funeral services for Vic Massey, 87, of Tyler, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tyler with Rev. John Scheusner officiating. Interment will follow at Tyler Memorial Park under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Massey passed away on October 21, 2025, in Tyler.
Lyndel "Vic" Gene Massey was born on July 26, 1938, in Willis, Oklahoma, to Edward Earl Massey and Martha Estell (Brown) Massey. He proudly served in the Army for 35 years, much of that time as an aeromechanic. Vic was the oldest flight engineer on Chinook helicopters during Operation Desert Storm. He was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher, fair booth director, and elder. Vic exemplified Christian values through his tenderness and love for Jesus, demonstrated by his service both at home and on many mission trips abroad. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Vic was a protector of people-giving, loving, caring, and generous. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret R. Massey; his son, Kevin Massey; and all his siblings, Tom, Joe, Raymond, Annette, Sally, Sherry, and Lynn.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Massey; his children, Jennifer Harris and husband Bill and Todd Massey and wife Angela; his bonus children, Joseph, Nina, John, Mark, and Rebecca; his special niece, Linda Kellogg and husband Mike; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Gerber, Roy Bell, Scott Krumm, Cory Massey, Matthew Bryant, and Ric Berrier. Honorary pallbearers are Todd Massey, Jack Netterville, and Eric Spaude.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Early Childhood Ministry Fund, 2001 Hunter St, Tyler, Texas 75701.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Chandler Memorial Funeral Home family.
