Lyndon Charles Smith, 84, of Charlotte, NC, died on October 16, 2024. He was born January 8, 1940 in Cornwall, NY. He was the son of the late Charles and Meribeth Howlett Smith and grew up with his siblings in Monroe, NY at Windy Acres, his family's dairy farm. He graduated from Drew University in Madison, NJ, where he met his future bride, Lois Fasula Smith. He was a history major, and earned ten varsity letters in soccer, basketball, and baseball.
He and his spouse Lois lived in Madison, Florham Park, Landing, and Monroe Township, NJ. He and Lois raised their three children in Landing where they were both very active in the community. Lyndon served as a Cub Scout Master and Boy Scout leader and coached youth soccer and baseball for many years. He had a lasting and positive influence on the youth that he guided. He also enjoyed social activities as a member of the Shore Hills Country Club and was active in their Men's Club.
His career involved several roles in the loss management field. In 2006 he retired from the Paterson NJ Public Schools as director of risk management, and moved to Charlotte, NC to be near family, as "family" was always his guiding light.
His family members cherished him, as he did them. He was preceded in death by two of his beloved children, Laurie May, of Conroe TX in 2007, and Glenn Lyndon of Charlotte on Christmas Day, 2023. He was also preceded by his brother, Dr. Gilbert Howlett Smith, of McLean, Virginia, who was his lifelong best friend.
He leaves behind his wife Lois M. Smith, whom he always referred to as "my lovely bride". They were blessed to have a marriage of 63 years. They enjoyed many activities centered around Davidson, NC post-retirement. They loved the Davidson College Wildcats and attended many games ---especially men's and women's basketball, soccer, volleyball and baseball.
Lyndon also leaves behind his remaining son, John Edward, John's wife Christine Gerdes Smith, and Lyndon's wonderful grandson, Michael Tyler Smith, all of nearby Huntersville, NC. Also surviving Lyndon are his sister, Sally Smith Dodge, and her children, Elizabeth Dodge Bathrick, and Timothy Dodge and their children, all of Germantown, NY. Also mourning his passing are his northern Virginia nephews and nieces, Gib, Gary, Grant, Gayle, and Gwynne who are his brother Gil's children. Lyndon's beautiful Australian Shepherd Dini, 14, is also very saddened by Lyndon's passing.
Lyndon brought love and laughter to many friends and colleagues throughout his life, and his generous spirit will be missed by all. His friends and family will take comfort in knowing that he led a happy and full life and leaves many cherished memories.
Funeral services will be private, as per Lyndon's wishes. Friends may send condolences to the family home at: Lois M. Smith at 8528 Condor Circle, Charlotte, NC 28269
Those wishing to honor Lyndon's life with a gift should feel free to donate to your favorite charity or to Drew University or to Davidson College.

Lyndon worked for my parents at the Three Bears. It has been a long time since I heard from/about him. I have fond memories of Lyndon and his sister, Sally. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. RIP Lyndon.

Oh, my darling brother!
My defender on the school playground...My hero for a lifetime!
How I will miss your sweet crooked grin..
the twinkle in your eye when you teased me...how the thought of you always makes me smle...and the joy I've always felt when I lay eyes on you.
I take comfort in thinking that youand Gil are together, planning new adventures

Rest in peace, dear brother
