Lynell Oats

Lynell (Greg) Oats, who departed this life on February 27, 2025, at the age of 66. Lynell was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend who touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
Born on September 29, 1958, in Schalter, Mississippi, Lynell was the son of Ida Mae Oats and Walter Flowers. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where he built a life filled with love, hard work, and kindness.
At the age of 17, Lynell joined the United States Army and proudly served as a Ranger for 10 years. His dedication, discipline, and bravery exemplified his commitment to service and country.
After his military service, Lynell became the owner and operator of Nelly's Trucking Company, a business he successfully ran for 32 years. His strong work ethic and determination allowed him to build a legacy of excellence in the trucking industry.
Lynell is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Felicia Oats. He was a proud father to his children: Tanesha, (Alexeev Griffin),Tavares, (Mercila Oats), Dorthy, (Koran Butler), Trinity Oats, Lynesha Oats and Janiya Oats. He also embraced three loving bonus children: Tia, (Shadrick Green), Darnell, (Brittany Frison), and Stefoni Williams.
Lynell was the proud grandfather of 27 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, all of whom will continue to carry his love, wisdom, and legacy forward.
Lynell was preceded in death by his loving mother, Ida Mae Oats; his sister, Miriam; his brother, Sam; and his son, Rashun.
He also leaves to cherish his memories his beloved siblings: Teresa Oats, Zipporah, (Kenny White), Michael Carter, and Tashawn Carter, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
