THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF LYNN RICHARD BROWN JR.
Devoted husband, father and grandfather
WATERBURY - Mr. Lynn Richard Brown, age 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love and comfort of his loving wife and family on Monday, March 21, 2022. Lynn was the devoted husband of Elizabeth Crichton Brown and shared 52 years of marriage and friendship together.
Lynn was born on October 17, 1935, in New Haven, CT, the son of the late Frances (Callahan) Brown and Lynn Richard Brown of Colebrook, New Hampshire. He graduated from St John the Baptist grammar school in New Haven and Notre Dame High School in West Haven. After graduation, he attended St. Bonaventure College and entered the Maryknoll Missionaries and served as a missionary priest in the Philippines for five years.
After his service, he had a successful career in sales at Levitz Furniture in Southington and Argene Interiors in Watertown.
Lynn was an avid reader of history, philosophy and theology, a true Renaissance man. He enjoyed UConn women's basketball games and cheered "his" ladies on! Lynn loved everything Irish and enjoyed his trips to Ireland where he was a regular at the Killarney pub! He was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Waterbury. Lynn loved yearly trips to Saratoga, Friday night pizza at McBrides in Wolcott, New Year's Eve parties, and a special trip to Montreal with close friends Sheila and Tony Lombardi, Bill (Diane)Foley, Carol Johnston and Judy DelSasso, affectionately called the "gang." Lynn also enjoyed being a Justice of the Peace and held many ceremonies in the "Brown Chapel."
Liz and Lynn are blessed with three wonderful children: Kristin Carolyn (Brown)
Mitnick and her husband Paul; Lynn Richard Brown III (Richie) and John S. Brown ( JB). The light of his life is his five grandchildren: Heather and Katherine Brown and Meghan, Julia and Myles Mitnick. He loved vacations at the beach with the family; and loved to cook and entertain family and friends. Special game nights with the grandchildren were his favorite and laughter filled the house.
Lynn came from a loving family and is survived by his sister Susan (Robert deceased) Johnson, and brothers James Brown (Joan Connelly) Robert (Lynn) Brown,Thomas (Karen) Brown and David Brown (deceased) and sister-in-law Carol Brown. Lynn loved playing cribbage with Jimmy and Tommy and yearly trips to the Moose Festival in Colebrook, New Hampshire where his family came from, growing up
helping with the family farm. Everyone loved listening to Colebrook stories including sleeping in the barn, riding horses, pitching hay and running into a bull or two!
Lynn is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his extended "Crichton" family; Mary Hughson, Patricia and Jack Moran, Joan and Bob Yanavich, Barbara and Paul Papp, sister-in-law Carol Crichton, where he was affectionately called "Uncle Lynn." He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Nick and Jeanne Nardoia ; and brothers-in-law David Crichton ; Paul Pilon and Ron Hughson.
He had many wonderful lifelong friends and had a deep commitment to his friends, many going back to his childhood in New Haven. More stories to share! A special thanks to his wonderful caregiver Ivan Ramdin who loved to engage him in conversation and had a calming presence.
The family is grateful to his many caregivers including Vitas Hospice Care Professionals and VNA Visiting Nurses of Watertown. A special love and appreciation to his niece, Jackie Moran and sister-in-law Barbara Pilon whose nursing skills and love and compassion sustained us all during his illness.
