Lynn Robert Buzzard was born in Ohio on January 15, 1940, to Theodore and Mabel Buzzard. He moved to Portland, Oregon with his parents as a youth and grew up in Portland, Oregon. He was a tremendous scholar and attended Duke University on full scholarship where he received multiple degrees, graduating with honors. Lynn loved to read, study and learn, going on to earn doctoral degrees in Theology and Law.
Lynn was married to Juanita Dunn of Kenansville, North Carolina and they were married 64 years at the time of his passing. Lynn taught as a professor at Northern Baptist Seminary, served as the Executive Director of the Christian Medical Society in Seattle, Washington, and was the founding Executive Director of the Christian Legal Society in Chicago, Illinois where he served in that capacity for 12 years.
In 1983, Lynn and Juanita moved back to North Carolina where Lynn was a Constitutional Law Professor at Campbell University School of Law. During his tenure as a professor and beforehand, Lynn travelled the globe with groups such as Advocates International assisting foreign governments with constitutional issues regarding church and state. Lynn was also the founder of a mission program which allowed Campbell Law students to assist the people of Guatemala. In 2001, Lynn became involved with Handong University in South Korea to assist them in starting the university's law school. In 2002 Handong University International Law School opened with Lynn as their founding Dean. Lynn authored multiple books throughout his career, provided legal assistance to churches and Christian organizations through the US and abroad, and assisted the State Baptist Convention when their legal needs arose. Lynn retired from teaching in 2012 but continued to serve the Lord and his community in many capacities with local and foreign mission groups. Throughout his time in North Carolina, Lynn has been actively involved in his local church, Buies Creek First Baptist.
Lynn is predeceased by his parents, his sister June, and his granddaughter Brittany. He is survived by his wife Juanita, his three sons Ted, Terry, and Tony: daughters in law Brenda and Tonya; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Dorothy. Lynn spent his 85 years on this earth with a constant and steadfast service to, and focus on, faith and his family. Lynn passed surrounded in his last days and hours by his family, and through his belief in Jesus Christ as his personal savior, he was welcomed to his eternal home on October 16, 2025.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, October 19,2025 at Buies Creek First Baptist Church with Rev. Gabe Waters and Rev. John Rogers officiating. Burial will follow the service in Buies Creek Cemetery. Mr. Buzzard will be available for viewing Sunday from 3:00-3:45 PM in the church sanctuary. The family will not be present during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buies Creek First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 160, Buies Creek, NC 27506.
