Lynn Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery Funeral Home on Sep. 23, 2025.
Lynn Sousley Evans, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on September 16, 2025, at Bickford of Marion.

Lynn courageously lived with brittle diabetes for 62 years, never allowing the disease to define her or diminish her joy for life. She was a true warrior.

Her younger years were filled with memorable moments, including being crowned homecoming queen of Henry Clay High School, attending the University of Kentucky, and skiing for Cypress Gardens in Florida.

Lynn went on to become a stewardess for American Airlines. During a weekend layover, she was set up on a blind date with Michael P. Evans, and it was love at first sight. After only a handful of dates, the two were married in Lynn's hometown of Lexington, Kentucky, on January 9, 1967. Their marriage was a true testament to their devotion.

Together, Mike and Lynn built their home, "Cottage in the Woods," in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Lynn adored decorating and filled their home with cherished memories, making it a gathering place for all who knew them.

Two years later, their daughter, Dru, was born. Lynn was a dedicated mother who never missed a single swim meet or event in Dru's life.

Lynn was a true Southern belle with an impeccable sense of style and sophisticated glamour. She never left the house without her lipstick and earrings and was known to have a belt for every outfit. Because of her great fashion sense, she became a fashion buyer for Boutique Ratcliff's and Armstrong's, as well as a personal shopper for many.

Lynn was a volunteer for hospice, and she would bring clients out to her "Cottage in the Woods" to share its peacefulness. She was also a member of the "Movie Club," a group of dear friends who enjoyed each other's company while watching carefully selected movies at one another's homes. Lynn was an animal lover, feeding all the wildlife and caring for her long line of English setters and feline family members.

Lynn was preceded in death by her soulmate, Michael P. Evans; her parents, Edward Ray Sousley, and Elizabeth Shea Sousley; and a brother, Sam Sousley.

Lynn is survived by her daughter, Dru Bernard; her son-in-law, Derek J. Bernard; and her granddaughter, Zoey K. Bernard, whom Lynn lovingly referred to as "Miss Zoey." Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Bonnie Sousley; her sister-in-law, Molly Evans Scott and Molly's husband, Brian; her brother-in-law, Thomas Evans and his wife, Julie; her nephews, Clay Sousley, Marc Sousley, Branif Scott, and Ryan Evans; her nieces, Britney Scott Courter and Kelli Evans; and many other grand-nephews and nieces.

Dru extends a very special thank you to Lynn's dear friend Karen Tousey, who visited and cared for Lynn several times a week after Mike's passing. She would also like to thank Molly and Brian Scott, who were instrumental in assisting Dru in saying goodbye to the couple's beloved home and in caring for Lynn.

Dru also extends her deepest gratitude to the staff at Bickford of Marion, who gave Lynn such loving care that they became an extension of her own family. Their support helped make her mother's final journey peaceful and serene.

Condolences may be sent to Lynn's daughter, Dru, at 1624 Urbana Avenue, Deltona, FL 32725.
