Lynn Fletchall passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, at the age of 84, from Parkinson's disease.
Lynn was born and grew up in Webster City, Iowa. After high school, he graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in American Studies. Following a year spent in San Francisco, he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam. Luckily, he did not see combat, and thanks to his typing skills, he was soon given a desk job. After he was discharged, he returned home to Webster City to farm the land he grew up on.
He met his wife, Virginia, in Webster City, and they married in 1974. She brought her two children, Evan and Sheila Mossman (Fulton), to live on the farm. Lynn and Virginia's daughter, Ann, was born in 1978, and all agree that the farm was a very special place to grow up, thanks to all that Lynn taught, built, and did for his family there.
Lynn and Virginia retired from farming in 2006 and moved to Ames, IA. During their retirement, they enjoyed several winters in the San Diego area, as well as travel to visit their children and other relatives. Lynn was an avid reader and walker in retirement. In his later years, it was clear that farming had meant a great deal to him.
Lynn was a delightful, kind, and intellectually curious person. He kept his tractors spotless, did his own tiling, liked country music, built a basketball court, taught everyone to drive stick shift, mastered the front flip on the trampoline, often rode his bike no-handed around the 5-mile block, had three VCRs going to record shows, drove the big van across the country many times, and was a Camaro owner for four decades. He was a wonderful and supportive husband, father, step-father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family.
Also surviving Lynn is his brother, Loran. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Evelyn, and his siblings: Lyle and Becky (Shelton).
A casual, come-and-go celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 18, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church Social Hall in Webster City.
