Jasper Lynn Overstreet, known to family and friends as "Lynn," passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Casa de la Luz Hospice in Tucson, Arizona, just days before his 86th birthday. He was surrounded by family and love in his final hours, including his last surviving sibling, Leroy.
Born on August 31, 1939, in Myrick, Oklahoma, Lynn was the youngest of six children of Vester "Buster" Overstreet and Dollie Mae Mosley. He grew up in Chandler, Arizona, helping on the family dairy farm, and served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962. An exceptional athlete, he also pitched in the minor leagues for a time.
After his service, Lynn met Barbara Ann Duhe in New Orleans, and together they had three children: Gaston Lynn, Stacey, and Kermit. Following their divorce, he moved to Lake Havasu, Arizona, and in 1970 married Claudia Margaret Thomas. After a brief separation, they remarried in 1972, bought a house in Des Moines, WA, and welcomed their son Christopher. Lynn lovingly embraced Claudia's four children - Tony, Bruce, Shellyne, and Ron Greene - as his own. He worked long hours as a sheet metal mechanic at Boeing, providing for his family and proudly supporting his children and grandchildren in their academic, artistic, and musical pursuits.
After Claudia's passing in 2001, Lynn returned to Safford, reuniting with his brother Dalton and sister Ruby. He cherished his time there with nephews, nieces, cousins and childhood friends. He especially treasured his daily phone conversations with his nephew Bo Hamilton.
Earlier this summer, Lynn made a trip to Washington to visit his son Christopher, Abby, their children Skyler and Kolibri, and his grandson Michael Saul. He also reconnected with Claudia's children and their many grandchildren. Shortly after returning home, he suffered a major stroke. He was transferred from the hospital to Casa de la Luz Hospice, where he passed peacefully as Christopher was playing an impromptu piano concert in the adjacent senior home. At his side were his niece Gaylynne and his big brother Leroy.
Lynn will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, humor, and enduring love for his family. He lived fully, worked hard, and cherished every opportunity to connect with those around him.
A Celebration of Lynn's Life will be conducted in October (dates TBA) in Phoenix, AZ, where most of Lynn's ashes will be laid to rest, and in Shelton, Washington, where some will be buried with his late wife, Claudia.
