Lynn Pontius Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory on Jan. 11, 2026.
Lynn Arden (Peura) Pontius, 72, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Cleveland Clinic. She was born on April 18, 1953, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Richard and Arden (Anderson) Peura. An Ashtabula County resident most of her life, Lynn was a proud graduate of Harbor High School, Class of 1971. Following high school, she pursued her calling in nursing, earning her Registered Nurse license from the Riverside Methodist School of Nursing, Columbus, OH. Lynn dedicated her life to caring for others. Her nursing career spanned several communities, including Richmond, Virginia, Toledo, Ohio, and Ashtabula, where she worked both in the hospital and as a visiting nurse. She also served locally at Ashtabula County Medical Center and later she worked as a nurse educator for the American Red Cross. In addition to her nursing career, Lynn was instrumental in the development of the AACS Gifted and Talented Program, serving on the founding committee. On September 14, 1974, Lynn married her middle school sweetheart, David Pontius, after many years of dating. Their marriage of 51 years was marked by deep love, partnership, and shared adventures. Beyond her professional life, Lynn had a rich variety of passions. She had a lifelong love of classical music and shared that passion by teaching piano lessons for many years. She was an avid reader, particularly enjoying history and medieval literature. Lynn also loved to travel, exploring destinations around the world, and she especially cherished boating throughout the Great Lakes. Lynn is survived by her loving husband, David Pontius; her children, Adam (Nicole) Pontius of Bainbridge, Caitlyn Pontius and Meadow Pontius, both of Ashtabula; her grandchildren, Luke and Mila Pontius, and Michael Andrulis; her siblings, Lois (Ron) Fritchen and their son Greg, and James Peura, all of Ashtabula; her sister-in-law, Patricia (Gregory) Seymour of Ashtabula; her uncle, Robert Peura; her aunt, Nancy (Terry) Mohr; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Arden Peura; her father and stepmother, Richard and Dolores Peura; aunt, Eleanore Peura, and her dear friend, Susan Palo Cherwien. The family will celebrate Lynn's life with a private service at the gravesite in Saybrook Cemetery at a later date. Her uncle, Terry Mohr, will officiate. Since there will be no public services, the family would like to encourage friends to share their memories and condolences on her obituary page at www.ducro.com In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Lynn's name to the ARMC Foundation, 2420 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, or the Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 West 13th Street, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff and nurses of the Cleveland Clinic Cardiac ICU and the ARMC ICU for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Lynn. Arrangements are being handled by Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Lynn, please visit our floral store.
