Lynn Jeffrey "Lynnie" Shawnee, 73-year-old Grove resident, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Integris Grove Hospital. He was born on March 15, 1952, to William "Beck" and Marie (Reavis) Shawnee. Lynnie lived in Lawton while growing up and graduated from Lawton Eisenhower High School, where he played basketball, ran cross country, played for the Sheridan Midgets Football Team and was a member of the ROTC. He had worked at Eastern State Hospital and McDonalds in Vinita. Lynnie was a member of the Red Gourd Society, and danced in honor of his military family members. He was also a member of the Cherokee, Shawnee, and Delaware Nations, his Shawnee Clan was Chicken Hawk and his name was Hon'theh Tah Si Mo meaning "one who fly's upward while voicing." Lynnie loved going to Silver Dollar City with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Beck and Marie Shawnee; siblings, Curtis "Buzz" Shawnee, Clark Shawnee, Richard Shawnee, Lewis Shawnee, Billie Marie Chism, Beverly Pope and Linda "Soupy" Willis.
The family includes his wife Laura (Hew) Shawnee of the home; two sons, Rev. Joshua Miller-Shawnee (Kyle) of Tulsa, Nathan Shawnee (Shanda) of Miami; daughter, Ashley Cooper (William) of Baxter Springs; brothers, Markus and Keith Shawnee, his cats, Bobby Socks and Lucy.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the Burckhalter-Highsmith Chapel in Vinita.
The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Lewis Shawnee Cemetery west of White Oak, Elder George Blanchard and Rev. Joshua Miller-Shawnee will officiate. Online condolences may be made at www.highsmithfh.com or on the funeral home Facebook page. Arrangements are in care of the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral and Cremation Services of Vinita. "Vinita's only locally family owned and operated funeral home."
