Lynn Worshek Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 5, 2025.
Gene Lynn Worshek, known fondly as Lynn to his friends and family, passed away on October 4, 2025 at his home in Bayard, Iowa. Lynn was born on December 29, 1948 in Panora, Iowa to parents Orville and Juanita (Willey) Worshek.
After graduating from Panora-Linden Community School in 1968, Lynn entered the US Navy and served his country for two years. He also served his community after graduating from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 1983 and working as a city police officer in Scranton and Churdan, as well as a volunteer Greene County deputy, and a Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff.
But his true passion was driving truck. Lynn began his career as a truck driver with Hoyle Trucking in Audubon, where he developed a love for the open road. After his time in law enforcement, he returned to driving truck for a variety of companies, including his own company formed with wife Dixie, D & L Trucking. The time he spent traveling across the country with Dixie was among the happiest of his life, with each journey bringing new adventures and stories to share. After her death in 2009, he found a second family with S & R Hoyle Trucking in Audubon, where he worked until his retirement in 2024.
Lynn's journey continues in the lives of those he touched. He has reached the end of his earthly trail, but his legacy is carried on by his loving family, which includes sister Marilyn Behr, sister-in-laws Marietta Worshek and Rita Worshek, his daughter Shari (Todd) Porter of Peru, IA stepsons Matt Wetzel (Nicole Wright) of Rippey, IA and Dan (Amber) Wetzel of Linden, IA. Grandchildren include Tanner (Mary) Porter, Tessa Porter, Taylor (Christian) Long, Torri Porter, Donavon Wetzel and Guinevere Wetzel. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dixie Hall Wetzel, his parents Orville and Juanita Worshek, and brothers Donald Worshek and Dennis Worshek.
Urn Bearers are Steve Hoyle, Donnie Hoyle, Joseph Dvorak, and Dave Bebb.
