M. Maxine Amundson

Maxine Amundson, age 97 of Baldwin, died peacefully September 1, 2025, at the Baldwin Apartments where she has resided the past few years. Maxine was born on October 18, 1927, in Dallas, Wisconsin; the daughter of David and Nora (Anderson) Lake. She graduated from Chetek High School in 1944. As a young woman, she moved to Chicago during World War II and worked for the Treasury Department processing war bonds. On June 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to her best friend and soulmate, Clarence Amundson, at the Lutheran parsonage in Chisago City, Minnesota. They settled in Ridgeland, Wisconsin, where he operated Amundson TV Repair and Service, and they raised their family. Maxine accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age while attending the Methodist Church in Dallas. She continued to walk close to the Lord throughout her life. In 1972, Maxine supported her husband, Clarence, as he was set in as Pastor of a new church, Zion New Testament Church in Ridgeland. In 1973, Maxine and her husband, Clarence, along with several other couples formed One Way Ministries and purchased an old lodge on Lower Clam Lake. They had the vision and desire to create a bible camp. That vision became a reality and Birch Haven Bible Camp in Clam Lake, Wisconsin was founded! In 1981, Maxine and Clarence relocated to Baldwin, and he was set in as Pastor of the newly formed, New Life in Christ church. A position he held until his retirement in 2014. Maxine developed many close relationships in the church and community. She was considered a spiritual mom by many. She continued to be a member of the church until her passing. Outside of supporting her husband in the ministry, she loved spending time with her family and faithfully sent cards to celebrate their birthdays and anniversaries. She was known for having a green thumb and many residents in Baldwin enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens at their home on 6th Avenue. She was a devoted wife and a loving mom to her three children, and a supportive grandma to all her grandchildren.

Maxine will forever live in the hearts of her children; Dana (Peggy) Amundson of Montreal, Wisconsin, Brian Amundson of Goshen, Indiana, Julie (Kirk) Frey of Eau Claire; 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 3 great great-grand child and brother, David (Diane) Lake. She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence; parents, sisters Betty Block, LaVeeda Lake, Norma Hein: and daughter-in-law Melora Amundson.

A funeral service for Maxine Amundson will be held at 11:00a.m., on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin. This will be live streamed, click here to watch. Pastor David George has the honor of presiding at her service. As she has done so many times, Connie North will celebrate with her music. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Ridgeland. 

Memorials are preferred and will be used to continue the ministry at Birch Haven Bible Camp. Funeral services have been in trusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.
