Mary Lois Smith, known to most as Lois, was born in Clifton NJ to the late James Cleo and Mary Clifford (Pate) Crockett on May 3, 1932.
The family relocated to Passaic NJ where Lois completed her education in the Passaic Public Schools. Lois was the second of 3 sisters and 9 brothers. As a young woman, Lois met and fell in love with the late Gardner "Boise" Smith. She took the vow of matrimony on March 10, 1956 at the age of 24.
Always a strong, independent woman, Lois began a career at Eastern Bindery located in Paterson NJ in the early 1950's. Lois always advocated for financial independence, and she stood on what she preached. After a successful 40-year career, Lois departed from Eastern Bindery and became a visiting home assistant serving Passaic county in 1993.
To all who knew Lois, she had a vibrant, fiery personality. She loved her family and she loved the Lord. Lois would often reflect on her brothers and sisters whom she loved dearly. Even in the saddest of moments, Lois trusted in the Lord that she would be reunited with them one day.
"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". Lois departed this life to be with the Lord on May 4, 2023 exactly ninety one years and one day from entering the world.
In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by her husband Boise Smith; brothers Otis Crockett, Gulanza Crockett, John Crockett, Franklin Crockett, Eddie Crockett, Talmadge Crockett, David Crockett, Jeffon Crockett, James Penrod Crockett and 2 sisters Annie Ola Reid and Rosa Lee Neal; sister-in laws Julia, Marge, Margaret, Carol, Dorothea, and Thelma; nieces Marsha Edwards, Wanda Crockett-Zubairu and great nephew Brian A. Crockett.
Lois leaves to cherish her memory, sister-in-laws Clara Crockett of Passaic and Lillian Brown of Florida along with nieces Francine Crockett-Wise, Maryann Washington, Edwina Crockett-Allen, Rosemarie Boyd, Marina Crockett, Stacey Crockett, Shemaine Wilson, Vanessa Crockett, Patricia Crockett Durr, Glenna Crockett, Karen Crockett, April Crockett, Yolanda Morgan, Tamara Brown Crockett; Nephews Franklin "Frankie" Crockett, Davy Crockett, Leonard Sawyer, Danny Showers, Eddie Crockett, Penrod Neal, Jeffon Tavean Neal, Michael Crockett, Brian Crockett, Shannon Crockett, Brian Adams; Home caregiver and friend LaMaya Holmes and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. It brings comfort to know that Lois has been reunited with those she loved in life and is resting now in perfect peace, in the presence of God, the Father. Amen
