Mabel Edwards Brewer, age 95, a lifelong resident of Lawrenceville, VA, joined the heavenly choir on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. She was one of five children born to the late Reuben and Ethel Edwards, and was also preceded in death by her siblings, Kennon Edwards, Marie Wiltshire, Thelma Tisdale, and Bobby Edwards.
A longtime member of Lawrenceville United Methodist Church, she was active in the choir, United Methodist Women, and served on numerous committees and boards. She served as Treasurer for the Town of Lawrenceville, retiring after 26 years of service. She was an avid bridge player, loved to read, enjoyed volunteering at the Brunswick County Museum, and loved to travel. She will be remembered most as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Wilbur Winston Brewer, Sr.; her children, Denise Brewer Harris (Gayle) and W. Winston Brewer, Jr. (Katrinka); grandchildren, Ashley Hardin (Lance), Lauren Hofman (Stuart), Wesley Harris, Meredith Fleig, Rebekah Townes (Charles), Matthew Brewer (Deidre), Shannon Marston (Mike), James Newman (Marji), Katie Byrge (Ben); great-grandchildren, Luke Hardin, Avery Hardin, Madison Hofman, Graham Hofman, Brooklyn Fleig, Charlotte Fleig, Chamberlain Townes, Finley Brewer, Cody Marston, Jaxon Byrge, Michael Byrge; sister-in-law, June Edwards, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks to Harriet Williams for the compassionate care rendered and Hospice of Virginia for their kindness and support.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2024 at Lawrenceville United Methodist Church followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
