O B I T U A R Y
Mabel Spears Carter of Campbellsville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Millard Eli Spears and Pearl Jane Riddle Spears, was born on Wednesday, March 12, 1930 in Cumberland County, Kentucky and departed this life on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 in Campbellsville. She was 94 years, four months, and four days of age.
She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Hogard's Chapel Methodist Church and was also known to be "Wherever the Preacher went". She was also a retiree for Fruit of the Loom, Inc. She had attended Lindsey Wilson College. She was a substitute teacher in Warren County many years ago, and several years ago she also volunteered for several summers at Camp Loucon as a counselor.
Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bro. Lester B. Carter on January 10, 2003 having united in marriage on August 24, 1946.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law: Rebecca Carter Kelly of Greensburg, and Deborah Carter Dearing and her husband, Ted of St. Louis, MO; one son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Fred P. Carter and wife, Lucretia of Bowling Green; six grandchildren: Paula VanMeter and husband, John of Greensburg, Paul Gregory Carter and wife, Emily of Gallatin, TN, Katherine Carter Dearing of Washington D.C., Philip Carter Dearing and wife, Anne of Boston, MA, Benjamin Carter of Louisville, Luke Carter of Bowling Green; six great-grandchildren: Patrick (Oindrila) VanMeter of Madison, WI, Faith (Justin) VanMeter of Champlin, MN, Jackson (Haley) Manley of TN, Mason Carter of Gallatin, TN, Ava Grace Carter of Gallatin, TN, Theo Dearing of Boston, MA; three great-great-grandchildren: Liam, Easton, and Millie Manley all of TN; one sister: Shirley Stone of Gallatin, TN; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ms. Carter was also preceded in death by a son-in-law: James Allen Kelly; a daughter-in-law: Diana Webster Carter; six brothers and four sisters: Granville Spears, Austin Spears, Leslie Spears, Preston Spears, J.E. Spears, Lester Spears, Lizzie Ooten, Bonnie Johnson, Maxie Bowlin, and Linda Appleby.

The funeral services for Mabel Spears Carter will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Central Time, Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home,
Greensburg, Kentucky with burial to follow in the Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville. Bro. Bill Davenport, Bro. Bryan Estes, and Bro. Mark Price officiating.
Visitation is requested after 10:00 A.M., Central Time, Saturday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home until time of the funeral service.
The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Gideon Bible Fund or the Lindsey Wilson College-Lester and Mabel Carter Scholarship Fund, which can be made at the funeral home.
