Mabel Isabel Orr Heder, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and devoted servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, in Layton, Utah, at the age of 93.
Mabel was born on July 31, 1932, in Kalispell, Montana, to William Merrill Orr and Marguerite Isabel Webb. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Marguerite “Peggy” Orr; her brother, Bill Orr; her husband, Walter; her daughter, JoLyn; her son, Van; and her stepdaughter, Janet.
From a young age, Mabel distinguished herself by her intelligence, leadership, and fiercely competitive spirit. She graduated from high school with honors as both Student Body President and Valedictorian, excelling in English, mathematics, debate, drama, and other business-related studies. She also loved ballroom dancing, singing, and all things sports related. She went on to attend LDS Business College, Modern Business College, and Brigham Young University.
Mabel was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and demonstrated her discipleship by the way she lived, loved and served both within the church and without. She completed two full-time missions for the church and supported six of her children while they served.
Prior to marriage and family, Mabel worked as an executive secretary at Firestone and General Electric. Later in life, she acquired a cosmetology license and worked as a Hair Stylist.
On December 20, 1958, she was sealed for time and all eternity to Walter Morgan Heder in the Los Angeles Temple. Together they had ten children, seven of their own and three from Walt’s previous marriage. She considered them all hers.
Mabel’s entire life was a reflection of her deep love for and devotion to her Savior Jesus Christ and a firm belief in King Benjamin’s words found in Mosiah 2:17,
“…when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.”
She is survived by her children: Susan (Don) Burris, Steven (Sherry) Heder, Lane (Karen) Heder, Charles Hansen, Quinn (Marrianne) Heder, Wendy Heder, Bill (LeeAnn) Heder, Laurel (Robert) Buxton, and Lisa Heder Gilchrist, along with 48 grandchildren and 77 great-grandchildren.
Mabel leaves a legacy of faith, family and selfless service, all of which live on in those whose lives she touched.
Funeral services will be held Saturday December 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Family and friends may visit Saturday from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.
