Mrs. Mabel "Mickey" Smith Keene, age 93, of Oglethorpe, Georgia passed away peacefully on Wednesday night, January 11, 2023 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Whitewater Baptist Church. Visitation will be Friday January 13, 2023 from 6:00 PM till 7:30 PM at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Lance Bernard, Rev. Sidney Clay, Rev. Chris Hall and Rev. Mark Poole will officiate the service.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus, Georgia at 2:00 PM.
Mrs. Mickey was born in Sebring, Florida to the late Devoe Smith, Sr. and Mabel Budd Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Clarence Wells Keene, three siblings, Frank Smith, Carole Kirby and Devoe Smith, Jr.; and two grandchildren, Jason Bray and Jennifer Bray Jackson.
Mrs. Mickey was a teacher at Southland Academy for many years. Mrs. Mickey was a faithful and longtime member of Whitewater Baptist Church and a member of Fidelis Sunday School Class and served as the secretary and member of the Golden Heirs of Whitewater and President of the WMU. She was a cancer survivor and a volunteer for the Macon County Relay For Life.
Mrs. Mickey is survived by her two daughters, Joy Nelson and her husband Wade of Montezuma, Georgia and Pam Perry and her husband Stuart of Americus, Georgia; two sons, David Keene and his wife Karen of Oglethorpe, GA and Randy Keene and his wife Kimberly of Byromville, Georgia; five siblings, Edward Smith of Peachtree City, Georgia, Richard Smith and his wife Judy of Cochran, Georgia, Annette Tribble of Macon, Georgia and Phyllis Smith of Oglethorpe, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Smith of Cochran, Georgia and Carrie Smith of El Paso, Texas; nine grandchildren, Chris Keene (Amber), Melissa Elsberry (Jerry), Natalie Bradley (Edward), Brittany Nelson, Amanda Campbell (Ryan), Candace Taylor, Carson Godfrey, Ayden Godfrey and Garlan Ray Godfrey; eighteen great grandchildren, Greyson Keene, Abel Keene, Eliana Elsberry, Jerry Elsberry, David Elsberry, Reese Bradley, Olivia Grace Bray, Landyn Bray, Emma Lynn Timmons, Brayden Timmons, J.B. Albritton, Hunter Albritton and Mason Wells Jackson, Rylee Kate Campbell, Layla Caruso, and Miah Tomlin; Thomas Jackson, Garrett Jackson. Numerous nieces, nephews and her dog, Jolene.
In memory of Mrs. Mickey, memorial donations may be made to Whitewater Baptist Church, 1955 State Route 128, Oglethorpe, Georgia 31068; or to American Cancer Society www.cancer.org ; or to Georgia Baptist Children's Homes and Family Ministries www.georgiachildren.org ; or to St. Jude's Children Hospital www.
