Mable David Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service - North Chapel on Mar. 9, 2026.
Mable Marie David, age 91, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on February 28, 2026. She was born on February 3, 1935, in Jay County, Indiana. Mable was the daughter of Frank J. Fowler and Myrtle M. Fowler. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Francis "Bud" Fowler and Dick Fowler; her sisters, Elizabeth Murray, Cora B. Garringer, and Betty J. Smith.

Mable graduated from Portland High School and continued her education at Marion College and Ball State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a master's degree in education. She devoted 29 years to teaching in Marion Community Schools in Marion, Indiana, shaping the lives of countless elementary students before retiring.

On December 23, 1960, she married the love of her life, Mayer E. David, who survives. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. She is also survived by her daughter, Lisa (Patrick) David-Mattingly, her sons, Doug and Randy David. She absolutely loved and cherished her grandchildren, Lauren, Zoe, Zachary, Michael, Molly, Alex, and Theodore David. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as extended family in Israel, including Nina Shayo and Abraham David.

Mable was a faithful member of College Church in Marion, Indiana, and later Grace Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her faith was central to her life, and she found great joy in her church communities.

Mable will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her passion for teaching, and the many lives she touched throughout her years of service. Her kindness, wisdom, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Mable David's life is a beautiful testament to unwavering faith and wholehearted devotion to God. Through every challenge she faced, she remained steadfast, trusting that God's plan was greater than any obstacle before her. Her prayers were not only words spoken in quiet moments but a daily surrender of her heart, actions, and dreams to the Lord she loved so deeply. Mable often reflected the spirit of Proverbs 3:5-6, which says, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." This scripture guided her steps, reminding everyone around her that faith is not merely believing in God during easy times, but holding onto Him with confidence, humility, and gratitude no matter the season. Her love for God shone through her kindness, her patience, and her quiet strength, inspiring others to grow deeper in their own faith.

A memorial service was held at Grace Baptist Church 3305 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC on Friday March 6, 2026. Burial will be at Grant Memorial Park in Marion, Indiana with a graveside service at 11 am on Saturday March 14, 2026.
