Mack Akery Obituary
Mack Arthur Akery, age 81, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Born in Carrollton on August 2, 1942, he was the son of the late William Lee "Bill" Akery and the late Eddie Emily Huddleston Akery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Akery, and a sister, Louise Pritchett.
Mack proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1961 until 1983, retiring after 21 years and 11 months of service. He was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device. Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 1 Device, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Devices, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 4 Devices, and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. Mack also completed training in Administrative Practices and completed the Noncommissioned Officers Academy in 1977. During his civilian life he worked in financial services.
Survivors include his son Gregg Akery and daughters Deborah Howard and Susan Freeman; sons-in-law Mark Freeman and Mike Howard; grandsons, Josh Akery and Jacob Freeman; granddaughters, Danielle Tuck, Madison Akery, and Savannah Howard; and great grandchildren: Lily, Levi, and Caster. Also surviving are his sisters, Sue Elliott and Betty Walker, and his brothers Carlos Akery, Charlie Akery, and Gerald Akery.
In accordance with his wishes, Mack will be cremated.
In lieu of flowers for the family, they recommend donations to the charities listed below that were important to Mack.
Mack was a veteran and considered disabled based on his service.
