Mack Travers Obituary

Mack Jacob Travers, a respected attorney, devoted family man, and cherished friend, passed away on March 14, 2025 at the age of 78. His wisdom, integrity, and dedication to the law left a lasting impact on the legal community and all who knew him.

Mack was born on January 30, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri, and grew up in Independence, Missouri. Mack proudly joined the US Air Force in 1965. Following his medical retirement, Mack graduated from Rockhurst University in 1972, and worked as an insurance adjuster for USF&G from 1972 until 1987. Mack moved to Beaumont in 1979, where he met and married the love of his life, Sherrie. Mack then received his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in 1989 before moving to Katy, Texas and embarking on a distinguished career spanning four decades. In 1995, Mack and Sherrie joined forces to form Travers & Travers, which remains a legacy and partnership built on mutual respect and dedication. A staunch advocate for his clients and a mentor to many, Mack practiced law with honor, dignity, and unwavering professionalism. Mack was a member of the State Bar of Texas, The Missouri Bar, American Bar Association, State Bar College, Texas Bar Foundation - Sustaining Life Fellow, Texas Family Law Foundation - Sustaining Life Fellow, Katy Bar Association (Founding Member), Fort Bend County Bar Association, Houston Bar Association, Family Bar of Fort Bend (Founding Member), the Burta Rhoads Raborn Family Law Inns of Court, and the Order of St. John Knights Hospitaller. Mack was admitted to practice law in the Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas, and was licensed to practice law in both Texas and Missouri.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mack had a love of history, particularly World War II, and was often engrossed in books, documentaries, and discussions about the era. A devoted fan of classic radio programs, he found joy in the golden age of storytelling and nostalgia. Mack and Sherrie were also part of Texan Bench & Bar, a group of lawyers and judges dedicated to collegiality and dialogue with legal professionals in other countries. Their travels with Texan Bench & Bar took them to England, Italy, Greece, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Russia, and Scotland.

Mack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, whose wit and guidance shaped the lives of his family. Mack is survived by Sherrie Haussner Travers, his partner in law and his partner in life. Mack is also survived by his daughters, Allison (Shelby) Hamilton and Annilee (Devin) Reed, his grandchildren, Reagan, Joshua, Abigail and Jackson, his brother, John (Linda) Travers, and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar F. Travers and Lula Frances Smith Travers.

The family will receive visitors at Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway in Katy, Texas on March 25, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held at Schmidt Funeral Home on March 26, 2025 at 11:00 A.M., to be followed by burial with full military honors at the Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mack's honor to the American Kidney Fund, The Truman Library Institute, and the South Texas Fund at South Texas College of Law.

Mack will be remembered not only for his legal expertise, but for the love, wisdom, and laughter he shared with all who knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
