Madeline Wolfe Litten, of Mount Jackson, VA, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, peacefully at her home.
Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 2:00-3:00 pm, at Valley Funeral Service, in Edinburg, with the funeral at 3:00 pm. A graveside service will be conducted afterwards in the Forestville Cemetery. Pastor Dan Nicholson will officiate.
Madeline was born near Edinburg on March 7, 1928, daughter of the late Hubert L. Wolfe Sr., and Anna Mae Guess Wolfe.
On December 27, 1958, she married Donald R. Litten (Donnie), who worked for Aileen, Inc. in Edinburg for 37 years, retiring as the Utility Manager. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2003.
Madeline was a graduate of Edinburg High School. (She and her identical twin sister, Maxine, were the first twins to graduate from EHS). She also graduated from Shenandoah Business College and was a Secretary/Bookkeeper for several construction firms and Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative.
Madeline faithfully attended Valley Central Church. She served as their Secretary/Bookkeeper for 43 years, performing many other duties as well.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and was raised in the Great Depression.
Madeline was preceded in death by her sisters, Genevia Wolfe Trimmer, Hazel Wolfe Bowers, Mary Wolfe Harper, and Maxine Wolfe Zirkle; brothers, Hubert L. Wolfe Jr., and Billy P. Wolfe, who were killed in action in Germany during WWII; and a special nephew, Brooklyn Bowers.
She is survived by special nieces, Peggy Bowers Cook, Billie Trimmer Zerkel, and Robin Bowers Heishman all of Edinburg, and Lisa Zirkle of Quicksburg; and by special nephews, Alan Harper of Beckley, WV and Michael Zirkle of Quicksburg; and by special grandniece Brenna R. Zirkle and grandnephew Michael B. Zirkle Jr.; and many other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Michael Zirkle, Barry Armstrong, Ricky Estep, Jeffery Litten, Mike Rinker and Louis Hoisington. Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg and Debbie Litten, and Paul Nesselrodt.
We would like to sincerely thank all of the caregivers for their dedication and the exceptional care that was given daily, as well as the staff of Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.
