Madelyn Patricia (O'Brien) McGreevy passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, in Burr Ridge, Illinois. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ackley, Iowa with visitation one hour before the service. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Ackley, Iowa following the funeral service. Sietsema Funeral Home is caring for Madelyn and her family.

Madelyn was born on March 18, 1928, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Anna (Byrne) and Patrick O'Brien. Madelyn, along with ve siblings, was raised on a farm homesteaded by her father's Irish immigrant parents. Madelyn attended elementary school in a one room schoolhouse south of Lincoln. She then attended Cathedral and Lincoln high schools in the city of Lincoln. After graduating from high school, Madelyn attended University of Nebraska and was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She later moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she met her late husband Robert H. McGreevy. Upon Robert's graduation from Creighton Law School, they were married at St. Cecilia's Church in Omaha on July 21, 1951. They then moved to Robert's hometown of Ackley, Iowa to raise a family and where Bob practiced law until his death in 1998.

Madelyn was a devoted wife and mother to her six children. She dedicated her life to giving and caring for her family. Her children and later grandchildren were the focus and joy of her life. Madelyn also was a devout catholic all her life and an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ackley, Iowa.

Madelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. McGreevy; sons, Patrick (Martha) McGreevy of Clarksville, Tennessee and Joseph McGreevy of Ackley, Iowa; and granddaughter, Teresa Jean Riniker of Greeley, Iowa. She is survived by her son, Mark (Jennifer) McGreevy of Elkridge, Maryland (grandsons, Daniel and Michael), Janet (Paul) Riniker of Greeley, Iowa (grandchildren, Steven, Michelle (Steve) Carroll, and Susie (Tony) O'Dell (great grandchildren, Hanna, Grant, Cy), Jean (Bill) Monat of Oak Brook, Illinois (grandchildren, Bill, Joe, Madeleine), and Sue McGreevy of Chicago, Illinois.
