Steve, 85, of
Greensboro, NC, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025 at Beacon Place Hospice in Greensboro.
Steve was preceded in death by: his wife, Judith Fourie of Marquardt, South Africa; parents, Madison "Duke" Vosloh and Dorothy "Dot" Moose Vosloh of Greensboro; brother, Mike Vosloh of Greensboro; and sister, Nancy Vosloh Deener of Winter Springs, Florida.
He is survived by: daughter, Michele Barry, and grandson, Liam Barry, of Menlo Park, California; sisters Judy and Jayne Vosloh of Greensboro; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Steve led a rich and adventurous life. He was an amazing storyteller and was always eager to share his experiences with others. Born in San Francisco on November 20, 1939, he grew up in Greensboro. From early childhood, he loved nature and the outdoors - enjoying camping, hiking, and exploring. At a young age he became active in Boy Scouts, ultimately earning an Eagle Award.
Steve graduated from Sumner High School in Greensboro where he played football. He received a Congressional appointment to the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York where he was on the rowing team and graduated in 1965.
His time at USMMA prepared Steve for a career at sea that took him to dozens of countries across six continents. He met the love of his life, Judy, in Capetown, South Africa. They married and raised their daughter, Michele, in Capetown and later in Durban. Steve would continue to travel, camp, and explore nature during the more than fifty years he lived in South Africa.
After Steve retired from the shipping industry, he and Judy moved to Marquardt, Free State, South Africa. The small town atmosphere suited them both after years living in a large city. After Judy's death in 2008, Steve taught chess to local children. Later he became a classroom teacher and taught science to middle schoolers.
In 2023, Steve's life came full circle when he returned to North Carolina where he lived with sisters, Judy and Jayne - again in Greensboro. He continued to travel when he could, spending time with daughter, Michele, and grandson, Liam, in California.
Steve will be remembered as a strong, determined, and sometimes stubborn man. He worked hard all his life and would never give up. He treasured his friends and was devoted to his family.
Plans for a memorial service/celebration of life are incomplete at this time. Donations to Beacon Place AuthoraCare Hospice in Greensboro would be appreciated.
