Madrene Ann Goeson

Madrene Ann Goeson, 89, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in her home in Moorhead, MN.

Madrene was born on May 15, 1936, to Walter and Alvina Thompson in Moorhead, MN. She grew up in Moorhead where she attended and graduated from Moorhead High School. It was there where she met her high school sweetheart, Graham Goeson, at the local roller rink in Moorhead. They were united in marriage on June 9, 1956, in Moorhead, MN, and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage together.

Madrene and Graham moved to Minneapolis, MN, where Graham attended the University of Minnesota. Madrene worked as a dental assistant to help Graham through his schooling. After his graduation, they moved back to Moorhead where Graham began his career with his father’s accounting firm and Madrene stayed home where she raised her family. After her children were out of the house, she began an in-home daycare, taking care of local children as well as her own grandchildren. She found joy in taking care of young children, especially babies. She retired from daycare, remaining in Moorhead for the rest of her life.

Madrene loved to cook and bake, especially her signature chocolate chip cookies and her home often smelled of breads, buns, or cakes. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, birdwatching, and collecting holiday decorations. She had an affinity for garage sales and finding an excuse to shop for the grandkids. She was a person of great, yet quiet faith and would welcome anyone into her home with open arms. She told it like it was with her signature sass and always put her family first as being a mom and grandmother brought her great joy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Madrene is survived by her loving husband, Graham; children, Carrie (Marty) Sittig, Bart (Lori) Goeson, Monica (Jason Bedford) Goeson, and Jonathan (Renetta) Goeson; grandchildren, Kelsey (James) Murphy, Brady (McCall) Goeson, and Jade Kruger; great-grandchildren, Nash and Marlowe Murphy and Ivy and Archie Goeson; sister-in-law, Kathy Metcalf; nephews, Brad, Brett, and Brian Thompson; Sheri, her caretaker; Brittany, her nurse; Judi Kruger, her special friend; her Maltese companion, Toby; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Alvina; brother, Garry; and brother-in-law, Roger Metcalf.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN, following the services at the church.
