On June 22, 1943, in Washington, Louisiana, a beautiful baby girl was born to Elizabeth H. Armstead and Elizgah Armstead. They named her Mae Dell Armstead, and from the very beginning, she brought light and love into the world.
Mae Dell began her spiritual journey at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Lecompte, Louisiana, where she was baptized at the tender age of five by Rev. Ellis Curtis. She was an active and joyful member of the church for 17 years and lent her voice to the choir.
In 1961, she moved to Texas with her young son, Eddie Dean Armstead. It was there that she met the love of her life, Robert Lee Chambers Sr., affectionately known as "Honey Bun." Their union was blessed with five children: Bridget Chambers (Cody), Robert Lee Chambers Jr. (Roshunda), Nathan Chambers (Tiffany), Marvin Joe Chambers Sr., and Eddie Armstead. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and family. Robert preceded Mae Dell in death in 2017 after many devoted years together.
Her unwavering faith in God continued at Lily of the Valley Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for many years. She was an usher for 21 years and served as Secretary of the Mission for 16 years. Mae Dell was always willing to help wherever she was needed, leaving a lasting impression on her church family. She remained a faithful member until she went home to see her Father in Heaven on May 25, 2025.
Mae Dell was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Lee Chambers Sr.; her parents, Elizabeth and Elizgah Armstead; her sons, Marvin Chambers Sr. and Eddie Armstead Chambers; and her sister, Lucinda Armstead Chambers.
Mae Dell leaves behind a legacy of love and faith in her children: Robert Lee Chambers Jr., Nathan Chambers, and Bridget Chambers. Grandchildren: Myesha Evans, Nicodemus Chambers, Gabriel Chambers, Kareese Chambers, Marvin Joe Chambers Jr., Rashad Chambers, Markain Chambers, Martina Chambers, Isaiah Chambers, Katelynn Harkey, Yazmine Chambers, Camille Chambers, Makayla Chambers, Braydon Chambers, Kevin Chambers, Devon Chambers, McKenzie Chambers, and Courtney Chambers. Her great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy, include: Magan Bean, Desmond Jones, Kaiden Chambers, Lyric Chambers, Markain Chambers Jr., Noah Chambers, Romello Chambers, Rashad Chambers Jr., Olivia Chambers, Zanelle Chambers, Karmela Chambers, Bellagianni Chambers, Gabriel Chambers Jr., Geneva Chambers, Ryan McBride Jr., Rye McBride, Righteous McBride, Kenslee Smith, Kali Harkey, Katerrelle Stevens, and the late Gabriela Chambers.
