Mae Belle Gregory Saxon was born March 31, 1940, to Binker Gregory and Derotha Williams in Allendale County, South Carolina. She is the third of seven children. In 1968 she married John Saxon.
Mae Belle's Christian journey began early in life when she was baptized in 1953 at Long Branch Missionary Baptist in Gifford, South Carolina. She continued her journey in 1968 when she joined Saint Annis Primitive Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Elder P. L. Jones. Mother Saxon was not a pew warmer, but a faithful and active church member. She believed in doing all the good she could while she could, which is evidenced by her participation in the following auxiliaries: Mother's Board, Trustee, L.M. Fisher Club, Matron Society, Choir #1, and Mass Choir, Sunday School, Pastor's Aide, Young Christian Women Advisor, BTU, a mentor in SALT (St Annis Learning Team) and the citywide Fellowship Choir. Mother Saxon did what she could while the blood was still running warm in her veins.
Mae Belle worked with compassion and dedication as a Volusia County bus driver from September 2, 1969, until her retirement on June 30, 1997. She was loved and respected by all the kids who were in her care.
On July 4, 2025, God looked down from above and saw a faithful follower whom He loved. She was ready and answered the Master's call.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Saxon; son, Jerrimy J. Saxon Sr.; two brothers, Phillip and Levi Gregory; daughter, Betty J. Garner; grandson, Kenneth McRae and sister-in-law, Jannie Gregory.
Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Gwendolyn Smart Saxon, DeLand, Fl; son, Anthony Cohen; sisters, Dolly Mae Gregory, Evylin G Youmans; brothers, John E. Gregory Sr.(Jarvis), Eunice Gregory (all of Fairfax, SC); sister-in-law, Dorothy Gregory, Milwaukee, WS; grandchildren, Jerrimy Jr, Jer'lyrea and Jer'Keria Saxon; Stefan McRae (Guelsuem), Harold McRae Jr., Antonio Cohen; great-grandchildren; Ayla McRae, Mina McRae, Harold McRae and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends.
