Mafalda Calandrelli Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 9, 2024.
Mafalda Pia (Pietropinto) Calandrelli died peacefully at home surrounded by her children on August 8, 2024. She was predeceased in life by her husband Gino Calandrelli.
Born in Caposele, Avellino, Italy on December 8, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Concetta (DaVito) Pietropinto.
Known to all as "Pia", she immigrated to the United States in April 1956. She was a master seamstress and studied dress designing. She designed clothing for major New York fashion houses and ended her career as a fur designer for Harris Furs in Providence.
Although Pia and Gino loved to travel, and spent years seeing the world, her best memories were made at home surrounded by her family from Rhode Island, New Jersey and Italy. She will be fondly remembered as the host of many birthdays, holidays, and family summer gatherings. Her traditions of making sauce and other fine foods for family and friends, and her endless patience, kindness, and love for others will be missed.
Her greatest accomplishment is her three children, Liliana V. Dolan and her late husband Bernard of Gloucester, Anna Boulanger and her husband David of Smithfield, and Peter Sangiovanni Jr. and his wife Maria of Smithfield. Pia was the former wife of the late Peter Sangiovanni Sr.
Pia had eight beautiful grandchildren, Bernard J. Dolan Jr. and his wife Desarae, Amanda P. Dolan, Stephen S. Fitzgerald Jr. and his wife Haley, Elise N. Riley, and her husband Thomas, Kayla A. Fitzgerald, Nicholas P. Sangiovanni, Olivia M. Sangiovanni, and Ava V. Sangiovanni. Pia had six great-grandchildren, Miles, Samuel, Reese, Taylor, Thomas Jr. and the newest addition, Owen.
She leaves her sister and best friend, Josephine Stoppiello and her late husband Oreste, her youngest brother Frank Pietropinto and his wife Denise, and sister-in-law Marie Pietropinto of New Jersey. She was predeceased by her sisters Assunta Bardascino and husband Vito, Vincenza Sibilia and husband Joseph, Alfonsina Pietropinto, Giuseppina Pietropinto and her brother Salvatore Pietropinto.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 12, 2024 from 4-7 pm in the Tucker-Quinn Funeral Home, 643 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Relatives and friends are invited to gather in procession at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 9 am with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Georgiaville. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
