Mrs. Mafalda Zorrilla passed away Friday June 23rd, 2023 in Edison, NJ. She was 81 years old.
Born in Valverde, Mao, in the Dominican Republic to Ismael Gomez and Maria (Chuchita) Liranzo, she was one of six children. At an early age Mafalda attended boarding school in Montecristi ran by a congregation of catholic nuns. During those years she developed a passion for sewing and kneading. She loved to read romantic, action and suspense novels.
She came to the United States when she was 21 years old with her mother, they worked as seamstresses in downtown Manhattan where she met her husband, Andres.
She traveled back and forth between New York and Santo Domingo.
Mafalda enjoyed cooking and caring for her children, grandchildren and family members. Her pastimes were cooking, reading, playing cards, puzzles and scratch-offs.
Mafalda is best remembered for her cooking skills, her strong personality, her unique sense of humor and her disposition for helping and taking care of others.
Mrs. Mafalda Zorrilla was predeceased by her husband Andres Eduardo Zorrilla, her father Ismael her mother Maria and her younger brother Chucho.
She is survived by her children: Lisabeta, Hepzy, Eduardo, Diosa Maria and Diosa Mafalda, her stepson Fidel, grandchildren: Jason, Victor, Hugo, Aurora, Aaron, Franchesca, Iriam, Elena, Zoe, Quentin, Paiton, Kieran and Andrea.
Friends and family will gather between 3 & 7 pm Thursday June 29th in the Dooley Colonial Home 556 Westfield Ave. Westfield, NJ 07090. At 6 pm a memorial service will be held with a time for loved ones to share remembrances.
