Magdalena "Maggie" Winter (née Hoeger), 82, of Willoughby Hills, passed away on March 20, 2025 at Thistle House Senior Living in Chardon.
Maggie was born on August 6, 1942, in Novi Banovci, Yugoslavia. She was raised by her mother and grandparents in Austria until her father (with whom she shared a mutual adoration) was released from a POW camp when she was about 8 years old. She immigrated to the United States as a teenager with her parents and brother. At the age of eighteen, she married Richard Winter, with whom she built a loving family and a life filled with warmth and generosity.
A woman of many talents, Maggie was an exceptional cook, baker, gardener, and seamstress. Her skills brought joy to those around her, whether through a lovingly prepared meal, baked strudel, or a beautifully crafted item. She had an innate ability to connect with people and made friends wherever she went-whether at the bank, grocery store, or a local restaurant. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Maggie is survived by her children: Eric Winter (Sheryl Pfeil), Karen Winter, and Carolyn Roch (Michael); her grandchildren Craig Roch (Abby) and Claire Roch; and her great-grandchildren Eliana and Blakely. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Winter, her beloved son Gary Winter, her brother Jakob Hoeger, and her parents John and Eva Hoeger.
Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00am, Thursday, April 3, 2025 at the Pilgrim Lutheran Brethren Church, 9514 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Mentor, Ohio 44060, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00.
Burial will be at Whitehaven Memorial Park in Mayfield Village.
Donations in her name can be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Brethren Church or The Hospice of the Western Reserve.
Maggie's selflessness and generosity touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who loved her.
