Mother Maggie Lee Wright Brown, daughter of the late Hosea and Carrie Lee Wright, was born on January 14, 1933, in Bishopville, South Carolina. She attended the public school system of Bishopville. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal-Savior and was a member of St. John 'United Methodist Church, Lake, City, S.C.
After a very brief courtship, Mother Maggie married the love of her life, Leroy Brown in Lake City S.C. Maggie and Leroy relocated to New Jersey in the late 1950s. Their union was later blessed with 4 beautiful children. They had over 45 precious years together until- the sudden passing of her husband.
She and Leroy joined Gethsemane P.B. Church in 1961 and remained faithful members. Mother Maggie's contributions to the Lord's Church were numerous. She was a Church Mother, Church Clerk Superintendent of the Church School for the Primitive Baptist Church Association, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir member during her time at Gethsemane, until the Church was dissolved in 2014. Mother Maggie then joined Newark Progressive Primitive Baptist Church, under the readership of Elder Robert Williams and remained a faithful member until her health faded.
Mother Maggie was one of the sweetest human beings that most have ever known, a woman of grace, patience, and a gentle spirit. She was truly a woman of virtue. Such a powerful woman with the softest voice. Mother Maggie took pleasure in spending time talking about the Lord and discussing the Bible. Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren.
Mother Maggie peacefully departed this life on January 4, 2024, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, NJ. Her life was a living testimony of the goodness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Leroy Brown, two brothers, Willie James Wright, and Isaac (Maureen) Wright, a son, David Brown and a loving daughter, Myranisha (aka Vernell) Perkins.
She leaves to cherish her sweet memory, a son, Wayne (Edith) Elliott, seven grandchildren, Nisha (Omar) Jackson, Rhonda (fiancé Bryan) Perkins, Jacoby (Dominique) Perkins, Ronald Perkins, Jessica, Cito and Joshua Elliott. Mother Maggie also leaves great memories to her fourteen great-grandchildren, Daquan, Vernisha, Ayonna, Jayvon, Nyvir, Bryan Jr, Mani, Kallie, Saquan, Nasir, Jacoby Jr., Nylani, Zara, Ja'norye, and two great-great grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Holte, Louise Brown, Elizabeth Garrett and Maureen Wright, a special Godson, Tameer Moore, and a host of many family members and friends.
