Maggie Mae Gates departed this earthly life on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the age of 83. She was born on June 21, 1941 in Okolona, Mississippi to the lates James Lee Gates and Maggie Buchanan Gates. She confessed faith in Christ at a young age and united with the Chapel Grove West M.B. Church. After relocating, she fellowshipped with Galilee Baptist Church and various churches.
She graduated from Fannie Carter High School and later relocated to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1968. She retired from Eckrich Meat Company after 25 years. After retirement, she worked for McKenzie's Bakery. Maggie enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and would do anything for anyone. She will truly be missed.
Maggie leaves to cherish her memories a dedicated son, Steven Gates, Sr. (Samantha), four grandchildren, Antwan Hamilton, Steven Gates, Jr., Trevon Gates, and Deontae Gates, and four great grandchildren, Kyohn Hamilton, Poetry Hamilton, Antwan Hamilton, Jr., and Delilah Gates. Additionally, she is survived by two sisters, Jewel Spicer and Dorthy Crayton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, James "Buck' Gates, Nannie Huggins, James Clyde Gates, and Albert Lee Gates.
