Mrs. Maitland Broadwell Byrd, 91, of Saint Pauls, NC departed this life surrounded by her children and grandchildren to be with the Lord on September 20, 2024. Mrs. Maitland loved and cherished her family and friends and was the best wife, mom, grandmother, aunt, neighbor and friend a person could ever have had. She always put herself last in her faithful service to others needs. She was a faithful prayer warrior who constantly prayed for others to be blessed, you could feel her prayers. She loved the Lord and her two churches Regan’s Methodist and Ten Mile Baptist where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
Mrs. Maitland was born on December 10, 1932 in Robeson County, NC the daughter of Freeman Kelton Broadwell and Ila Mae Kinlaw Broadwell. She had one brother, Kelton “Mack” Broadwell who she shared a very special close bond with.
She was a Graduate of Saint Pauls High School and The Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina. She taught school for a short time and married her husband, Bill Byrd on December 22, 1956.
In addition to her parents, Maitland is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her brother, Kelton “Mack” Broadwell; sister-in-law, Melba Musselwhite; brother-in-law Doug Musselwhite her son-in-law, Carl Hyatt; her in-laws, Bob and Dixie Byrd; a nephew, Mack Broadwell, Jr.; her aunts, Annie Herring and Lillian O’Quinn; her uncles, Dohn Broadwell, John Herring and Charlie O’Quinn and cousins Dohn and Waverly Broadwell and John Furman Herring.
Mrs. Maitland is survived by her children, a daughter, Joni Hyatt; three sons, William Kelton Byrd, Robert Byrd and Dohn Byrd all of Saint Pauls NC; five grandchildren, Andrea Hyatt, Amber Byrd, Dakota Byrd, Luke Byrd and Philip Hyatt(Amber) all of Saint Pauls NC; six great grandchildren, Jared, Austin, Jayden, Ayden, Logan and Kennedy of Saint Pauls NC; her nephews, Jeffery Broadwell( Loretta) and Perry Musselwhite (Jeanne); her nieces, Joanne Broadwell McMillan (Joe), Connie Maynor (Kevin), Laura Musselwhite and Kristine Broadwell Keith ( Jae), a sister-in-law, Joyce Broadwell; her cousins, William O’Quinn, Charles O’Quinn, Dennis O’Quinn, Sally Pace, Isabelle Depuy and husband, Wayne, Joe Williamson, Susan Williamson, Rita Marble and husband, Robert and many many friends.
