Malcolm Buchanan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sperry-McHoul-Pichi Funeral Home on Oct. 24, 2024.
Yarmouth Port, MA – Malcolm "Mal" D. Buchanan passed away peacefully in his home in the presence of family and close friends on Friday, January 10, 2020.
Mal was the beloved husband of Judith "Judy" (Sutherland) Buchanan, with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage on October 7, 2019.
Born July 18, 1936, he was the son of the late James and Mildred Buchanan of Waltham, MA. He was predeceased by his brother James Buchanan. Mal often spoke fondly of the summers he and his brother spent visiting family, and getting into some mischief, on Prince Edward Island.
He joined the U.S. Navy Military Service and proudly served on the U.S.S. Saratoga CVA-60 and was honorably discharged in 1961.
Mal and Judy lived in North Attleboro, MA for 15 years. A successful businessman, Mal founded Buchanan Appraisal Co. and operated his business for 25 years out of North Attleboro until his retirement in 2003. Upon retiring, Mal and Judy moved to Cape Cod and happily made it their home.
A loving, devoted family man, his most cherished times were those spent with family. He loved a good laugh and could be counted on to provide the humor at any gathering. Mal and Judy most enjoyed packing up the car for a road trip to explore new locations together and take in the scenery.
Mal had a curious mind for how things worked and a knack for solving problems and puzzles. His interests included American history, magic, carpentry, boating, fishing, golfing and following the New England Patriots. The family holds countless happy memories of how he taught and shared many of these hobbies with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife whom he adored, he is survived and loved by his children: Eric Buchanan and his wife Lynn of North Attleboro, MA, Craig Buchanan of Yarmouth Port, MA and Kirsten Buchanan of Cumberland, RI. He also leaves two treasured grandsons who will miss their "Gramps": Blake and Grant Buchanan.
