Malcolm Frazier, age 93, of
Concord, MA, died peacefully on August 8, 2023, following a long battle with lung cancer.
He was born in
Cambridge, MA, the third son of Francesca and Francis Frazier. He spent his early years on a ranch near Pyramid Lake, Nevada. He returned to reside in Cambridge and then attended Shady Hill School (class of 1944) and graduated from Middlesex School in Concord (class of 1947). Malcolm was the valedictorian of his class in 1951 at Williams College. He continued further studies at M.I.T. for five years, but left for a summer job at Raytheon that occupied him for the next 37 years. Malcolm worked as a principal engineer at Raytheon and authored five papers and additional patents. He was particularly proud of his work on the navigation system of the Apollo V rocket to the moon and his years contributing to space exploration. Malcolm was known for nurturing young talent and encouraging others to go into the field of programming.
Malcolm married his lifelong love, Constance, in 1966 and had loving and happy homes with her and their daughter, Holly, in Concord and Medfield, MA and Center Harbor, NH. After retirement, they moved to Winter Park, FL. Malcolm participated in many clubs during his years in Winter Park including the Stag Club, the Presidents Club, the Romeos, and the University Club and University Club chorus. He led the chorus for a number of years with enthusiasm. Malcolm also volunteered his time teaching calculus and advanced math to a number of youth, because for him "math was play!" For the past three years, he resided in
Concord, MA once again, and made warm connections with his neighbors and visited frequently with family.
Malcolm was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Frank, Donald, and Gordon, and his beloved wife of 52 years, Connie. He is survived by his daughter, Holly and son-in-law William Ballard; and his cherished grandchildren Ruth and Daniel who were his joy. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Brooke Lynes and Nancy Frazier Herman and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to express gratitude to Deborah MacBeth, D.J. Murray and to Care Dimensions Hospice Care for loving and exemplary care in Malcolm's final months of life. This care made it possible for the family to celebrate his life each day with him in comfort despite his illness.
Relatives and friends will gather for visiting hours at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Friday, August 25th from 3 to 5 pm, concluding with a prayer service. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1, Ayer, MA 01432.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
