Malcolm "Sonny" P. McGuirk, 94, of Superior, died Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Benedictine Health Center in Duluth.

Malcolm was born in Milwaukee on January 4, 1931, the son of Douglas and Rose (McIntyre) McGuirk. He married Leona "Nonie" Wnek on June 20, 1953, and they celebrated 71 years of marriage until her death in 2024.

Sonny served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

He had worked as a carpenter, at the grain elevators and Duluth Avionics. He was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and a volunteer for the VA.

Sonny was active in many sports including baseball, softball, golfing, ice skating, sledding, swimming, bowling, and frequently attended local and regional stock car races. He enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, and liked doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Sonny also enjoyed listening to music and was a good singer and dancer.

He loved to make people laugh and was always acting silly, especially while posing for photos. He made many lifelong friends over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; grandchildren, Jeremy and Jada McGuirk; and his siblings, Patricia, James, Bob, Mary, and Margaret.

Sonny is survived by his children, Joanne (Tom Sr.) Roeber of Superior, Jeanne (Chauncey) Bangs of Barnes, Janice (Steven) Sneide of Proctor, James McGuirk of Florida, Jerold (Wendy) McGuirk of Georgia, Julie (Joseph) Sullivan of Foxboro, John (Lisa) McGuirk of Superior and Jeffrey McGuirk of Superior; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 17th from 12:30 p.m. until the 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2316 E 4th St, with Very Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
