Judith Schustedt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Downs Funeral Home - Superior on Feb. 7, 2026.
Judith "Judy" M. (Larson) Schustedt passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 in Fond du Lac, WI with her family by her side.

Judy was born February 11, 1940 to August and Lila (Peterson) Larson in Superior, Wisconsin.

She went to school in a rural one-room schoolhouse, and later graduated from Central High School in Superior. She met the love of her life, Miles Schustedt (Clear Lake, WI) while he was attending UW Superior. They married July, 25, 1958. Their son, Robert was born in December 1959 in Superior. Miles' career in music education led the family to Viola, WI, and son James was born in nearby Viroqua in August 1961. Another music teaching opportunity led the family to Ashland, WI. While raising Bob and Jim, Judy attended classes at Ashland County Normal school; her goal was to be certified as an elementary school teacher. She loved children and fondly remembered her one-room schoolhouse days.

In 1970, Miles accepted another teaching position in Fond du Lac, WI. To lure Miles away from accepting a teaching position in Eau Claire, WI, the Fond du Lac school district superintendent cemented the deal by offering Judy a teaching position as a first-grade teacher at Waters elementary school, with the caveat that she get her accredited teaching certificate. So, Judy completed her bachelor's degree at UW Oshkosh. She taught at Waters elementary school for two years, then transferred to Pier elementary school in Fond du Lac, teaching first grade (and sometimes a first/second split) until her retirement in 1999. She loved inspiring her students. She was especially proud when former students would become teachers: one former student became the principal at Pier school.

Son Bob married Mary Schmidt of Lomira, WI in 1980. They now live in Monument, CO. They gave Judy and Miles two grandsons (Jesse and Ross). Jesse married his high school sweetheart Chantay (Stoegner), and they gave Miles and Judy three great-grandchildren; Roman, Everett, and Cheyenne. Ross married Lindsay (Clapper), and they gave Miles and Judy two great grandchildren; Maci and Miles. Judy and Miles loved their grands and great-grands with all their hearts.

Son Jim married Kay Ogle of Fond du Lac in 1983. They now live near Mount Calvary, WI. Being close to home, they have spent a great deal of time with Miles and Judy. Two of Judy's passions were gardening and quilting; both of which she loved sharing with Kay.

Judy's other passions were traveling, going for car rides, eating in restaurants, and ice cream. She spoke of her favorite trips being to Norway to visit relatives, California Rose Parade (behind the scenes tour of floats), and Hawaii. She and Miles also greatly enjoyed extended stays on their property in the woods near the Peshtigo River flowage.

Husband Miles passed away in 1999, and left a deep void in Judy's heart. They were sweethearts: everyone who knew them could see they were truly in love.

Judy is survived by her younger sister, Nancy Linnerooth of Stillwater, MN. Nancy's two children, Susan and Steven were well loved by Miles and Judy and their family.

A graveside ceremony will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2026 for family and close friends at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, WI.
