Dr. Malcolm "Mack" Rayfield Rainey, Jr., Ph.D., 62, of Moultrie, passed in peace with his devoted and faithful wife Lisa G. Rainey by his side on May 28, 2022, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 11 am in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home with Dr. Larry Allen and Dr. Lucas Maxwell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
He was born on January 20, 1960, to the late Malcolm R. Rainey, Sr., and Grace L. Rainey in New Orleans, LA. Mack had a passion for agriculture and animal science. He received his doctorate degree from Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS in 1998, and spent most of his professional career in education teaching at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Arkansas Tech University.
As an honor for his many years of dedication to the study of agriculture at Arkansas Tech University, a scholarship was established named Dr. Malcolm "Mack" Rainey, Jr. Department of Agriculture Scholarship. It benefits students studying animal science, agriculture business, horticulture, and agriculture education at Arkansas Tech University.
He loved to teach and share his passion and life experiences with students. His impact on the students was evident to all who knew him. He was also a lifelong learner and collector of agriculture caps.
On January 12, 1996, he married Lisa G. Rainey, and they raised three daughters Amanda Hampton, Jessica Fillyaw, and Sarah Rainey. Mack's favorite saying was "be honest and dedicated", and this is exactly how he chose to live his life. He was known for his honesty, positive attitude, and his kind passionate spirit.
In addition to his parents, Mack was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Lynn Rainey.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lisa G. Rainey of Moultrie; children, Amanda Hampton and husband Alex of Moultrie, Jessica Fillyaw and husband Spencer of Tifton, and Sarah Rainey of Statesboro; grandchildren, Hannah Hampton, Jonathan Hampton, Millie Fillyaw, and Tatum Fillyaw; and his sister Cheryl Recotta.
