The community of Roswell and the United Methodist Church has lost a great man of God. I did not know him personally but observed him from a distance at the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference and was impressed by his humble spirit while also being a strong leader.

I started attending RUMC, in large part, because of Malone. I was newly single, 27 years old and in need of some spiritual healing. After Joe and I married, we started attending together. Malone did not marry us. However, we renewed our wedding vows at 10 and 25 years and he conducted both of those joyful services. If it had not been for Malone and Dick Dunn, we both believe we would not have survived the first 2-3 years of our blended family experience.
I adore Malone. When I was having major trouble with a family member, I would frequently seek his guidance. When my Mother was placed in hospice, I spent many an afternoon at North Farms Subdivision, seeking solace and prayer with him. When she died and I knew I would have to face this troublesome family member, I´ll never forget what he said. "Let´s put together a caravan of your friends (several dear friends from RUMC) and head for Savannah. Surround yourself with their love." That´s exactly what we did and it made the funeral, not just bearable, but full of love and even some laughter.
I will be forever grateful for Malone´s spiritual guidance and friendship. He will always be "my" pastor. The Good Lord has welcomed a loyal, enthusiastic Christian. I´m sure he will also add laughter to the heavenly skies. He will be missed by so many.

Dear Charlotte
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of this dear wonderful friend to both Pug and I. Pug does not remember very much and hasn´t for several years but when I asked him if he remembered Malone he said yes. I just heard today, Friday, about his passing. I only leave house to go to grocery store and Wayne, Pugs son usually keeps me up to date but he too was unaware.
Pug will be turning 95 soon and i of course do not know when the Lord will be taking him from me but I do know He will be with Jesus just like Malone.
God Bless you and your family
Love
Sandra

After Malone retired from RUMC, he liked to meet with the "ROMEOs" (Retired Old Men Eating Out, made up mostly of RUMC men who had retired and liked to have a meal together. Malone could not always be there because his pastoral work continued long after he retired. We could always count on a funny story (or maybe sad news about a fellow RUMC member). We always felt enriched when he could be with us!

To Charlotte, Steve, Phil, Melanie and families: My deepest condolences in Malone's passing. He made one of the greatest impacts on Haygood UMC while I was there, and as this website is duly named, he left a legacy to God, the UMC and his family.

We were very saddened to hear the news about Malones passing. He was an asset to our neighborhood. He was a kind gentle man who knew no strangers and will definitely be missed by all of us. May the God of all comfort be very real to his family at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Malone Dodson had a heart of gold! I as well as my family was truly blessed to have him apart of our lives. As a child I listened to his sermons front and center sitting on the floor at RUMC. As an adult I was apart of his dental team. Just one amazing man. He will be missed by so many. My deepest condolences to his family. May the memories you have always keep him close in your heart.

Malone Dodson was a great man -- he was close friends with my grandfather Charlie, he was the minister at my parent's wedding, performed my Christening, and presided over both my grandmother's and grandfather's funerals. He was truly one in a billion, a kind man with a bright smile and an infectious zest for life.
