Raymond Kyle "Ray" Smith

Raymond (Ray) Kyle Smith, age 81 of Alpharetta, Georgia died January 15th, 2026 surrounded by loving family members.

Ray was born on July 25, 1944 in Kingsport, TN. He is the son of the late Dolly and George Smith and brother of Linda Schmidt and Mary McVeigh of the Baltimore, Maryland area. He was preceded in death by his brother Gene Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife Priscilla Smith and his children Raymond Smith, Jr. (Julie), Heather Yaughn (Jamie), Katie Smith (Andrew Adams), Lori Zentz (Chet), Stacey Crum (Mike), and Kim Mellott (Matt). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren including Nathan and Millie Smith, Taylor and Sydney Zentz, Ashleigh, Sarah and Ryan Crum, Lexi and Joshua Mellott, Branden Groves and Britney Butler, Joseph and Evan Yaughn, as well as great grandchildren Melanie and Eliza Adams. He is also survived by his niece Terri Dederick and nephews Mark Smith, Tony Smith, and Jack McVeigh.

Ray was a pioneer in the field of computer programming and began his career with Peterson Howell and Heather in Baltimore in the late 1960s. He worked in computer programming and technology for numerous companies throughout his prestigious career including Honeywell and General Electric, and then became a consultant after retirement.

He was a member of the U.S. National Guard and also taught computer science at Lanier Tech College during the early 2000s.

Ray loved to dance and was a regular cast member and committee member of the famous television dance program in the 1960s called "The Buddy Deane Show" in Baltimore. In 2015, he was inducted into the Maryland Entertainment Hall of Fame along with fellow committee members from "The Buddy Deane Show".

Ray had a heart full of love for his family and each of them held a special place in his life. He took joy in keeping up with and checking on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He treasured every adventure he shared with his wife Priscilla. Even though they met later in life, their love was boundless and they made every moment together truly unforgettable.

The family will receive friends and family for visitation beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Northside Chapel, 12050 Crabapple Rd, Roswell, GA 30075. A celebration of life service will begin at 11:00 am.
