Manes Adan was born in Haiti, where his love for faith, family, and music first took root. As a young man, he found great joy in playing music in church, a calling that would stay with him throughout his entire life.

It was through music that Manes met the woman who would become his lifelong partner, Marie Gertha Adan. They first crossed paths at Saint Lumière in Aux Cayes, where she was learning couturière. Their connection deepened in church, where Manes was performing. From that moment on, their lives became intertwined through love, faith, and devotion to family.

Together, they built a home filled with warmth, purpose, and creativity. They were blessed with six children: Marie Édith, Juda, Germa, Paul, Gerson, and Jeffrey.

In addition to his musical gifts, Manes was a highly skilled carpenter. He crafted beautiful furniture and creations with his hands - work that reflected his patience, precision, and artistry. Yet music remained a constant heartbeat in his life. Whether before or after work, he always made time to play, rehearse, or serve in the church music ministry. Manes gave generously of himself to support young people in finding their voice. He helped church music departments grow, often donating instruments and dedicating his time to nurture and strengthen church music ministries.

Through his example, he passed on a deep love of music-making to his children. Each of them learned to appreciate and engage with music in their own way: Paul learned the saxophone; Gerson learned the bassoon and piano; Jeffrey learned piano; and Germalearned violin and continued a career as a musician and music teacher.

Music was a shared thread in their home, shaped by their father’s passion and presence. Manes was also a composer. He wrote and performed his own songs - including ‘Nous pas anyin Seigneur’ - often rehearsing and creating music at home. In Haiti, Manes had his own band where he performed his own songs and toured around Haiti. His family carries many fond memories of hearing melodies drift through the house as he worked.

Just as music shaped the rhythm of their home, prayer shaped its foundation. Prayer guided every moment: there was no going to sleep, no beginning of a journey, not even starting the car without prayer first. He never negotiated prayer: God was first before everything.

On December 4th, 2025, during his final moments, Manes looked into his wife’s eyes and gave her three gentle handshakes — a gesture through which she felt him giving her strength. In that moment, she understood that he was ready to go and be with God.

He leaves behind his wife, his brother Roosevelt Anesca, six children, five grandchildren, and his family-in-law, who loved him very much. His legacy of music, craftsmanship, prayer, and love will continue to live on in all who knew him.
