Manfred Ivor Arkles was born on February 26th, 1941 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He grew up in South Africa and attended Germiston High School. He was too small for South Africa's national past time sport of rugby, so he took up the bugle in the all boys school military cadet band. He enjoyed playing the bugle and playing reveille telling his classmates to "wake up". He also enjoyed diving where he was part of his communities volunteer search and rescue team in Alberton, South Africa. He set his sites after graduation on learning a trade. He attended a trade school, and then became a machinist. He then immigrated to the United States in 1967. He then married Suzanne Walker and they had a son David S. Arkles. He became a US Citizen June 21st, 1978. He spent 40 Plus years as a machinist and made his way from becoming a Journeyman Machinist to a Master Machinist, and Lead Supervisory positions working for such notable companies such as: Bethlehem Steel, Mack Trucks, and Ingersoll Rand. He was very hard-working and dedicated. He was known for his attention to detail and received many accolades at work. His hobbies included the study of martial arts where he studied Judo. His deep commitment to the martial art earned him a significant milestone as a second degree black belt. He was a man of few words. He was direct and to the point. What made him special was that even against all health obstacles he would not ask others for help or complain. He was very prideful, and would always smile around others. He loved his son, and was very proud of him. He would tell anyone near him "Hey" "That's my son" On my last visit he expressed his love for me with this quote "You are a good son, and I love you." Here is a quote which I thought is fitting. It is a line from the movie It's a Wonderful Life. "Each man's life touches so many other lives, and when he isn't around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?" "You have no idea." He will be deeply missed by his son and all who knew him.
"With love, The Arkles Family"
